Brownsville's rich history began when the Rio Grande River
was declared the boundry between the USA and Mexico. The first battle
of that war happened just outside of Brownsville at Palo Alto. The last
battle of the Civil War happened between Brownsville and the mouth of
the Rio Grande River off Texas 4 going to Boca Chica Beach. Brownsville
has over 100 building declared to have historical significance that cannot
even be remodeled inside with out approval. The orginal cemetary is similar
to the one in New Orleans and built that way due to the flooding here
too. Museum include the founding fathers house - Stillman House Museum,
Southern Pacific Railway Station - Historic Brownsville Museum, and the
Confederate Airforce Wing with WWII military aircraft. |

Here is Brownsville's internationally famous zoological and botanical park. This intriguing zoo is most visitor-friendly and a unique haven for over 1,500 rare species of mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and insects amidst natural settings with ever-blooming plant life and also serves as a rehabilitation center. | The Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary with its intact mature growth of Texas Sabal Palms is an ideal location for birding or a relaxing nature walk on its trail system.
