Day Trips are a popular activity either accompanied in season by Rio staff or on your own with the maps and information provided. Matamoros and Progresso, Mexico along with Brownsville’s original town site area are THE most interesting Day Trips available. The park staff make both Mexico trips very easy and enjoyable with shopping and dining in Mexico. Day Trips to South Padre Island, Birding, Butterflying, Mid Rio Grande Valley and Upper Rio Grande Valley are offered with detail and your own personal map supplied by the park office. Our most popular and easiest Day Trip whether with our Guide or a map on your own is a piece of cake. During our winter season our activity directors go to Progresso, Mexico once a week, historically on Tuesday. Leave the park about 9:00AM and return about 4:00PM. You will have some time for shopping before lunch at a designated restaurant and more shopping to follow lunch. You do not have to worry about the food any more than an eatery in your home town.
