Birds are attracted by park feeders from the Tamaulipas Brush in the adjoining ranch and farm land. The birds can be seen from the RV Sites, Tenting area, and Rental Units. Park plants attract hummingbirds, orioles, and butterflies make good photographic subjects. Sunsets and sunrises are also stunning..

National Audubon’s Sabal Palm Sanctuary is 10 minutes away and Boca Chica Beach on the Gulf of Mexico is just 20 minutes. Sabal Palm Sanctuary offers over 3 miles of trails. The trails include a sabal palm forest, native trail, dense brush, grassland, butterfly garden, and Resacas (oxbow) surrounded by brush with varying depths of water for ducks through wading birds. Trails, berms, and boardwalks offer numerous views of the varying habitats. Boca Chica beach offers 8 miles of beach, South Bay, saltwater ponds, and salt flats with lomas. The road to the beach from Rio offers Osprey, Hawks, Kites, and an occasional Aplomado Falcon.
